What do I offer?

I use the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model of therapy. IFS is an evidence based approach that  has been developed over the last forty five years by Richard Schwartz. Bessel Van Der Kolk, one of the world's leading experts on trauma, who wrote The Body Keeps The Score, hailed IFS as "one of the cornerstones of effective and lasting trauma therapy" (Quotation from No Bad Parts by R Schwartz).

As Dick Schwartz notes, most of us would say yes if asked if there was some part of us we wish would go away. IFS however, invites us to have a different relationship with these parts of ourselves, promoting inner harmony and ultimately leading to true healing rather than  persistent struggle.

It is entirely up to you what you want to work on in each session. Work is only done with the permission of your whole system.

I offer weekly or fortnightly one to one counselling for individual adults. This could be either short or long term according to your needs.

Experience:

After a number of years as a senior social worker in adult social care, I chose to retrain as a counsellor. I began my counselling work in the voluntary sector then moved to offering online and in person therapy through my own practice and with the Oxford Counselling Centre. I am experienced in working with people who carry traumas, have attachment wounds, are experiencing stress, low self-esteem, addictive processes, anxiety and depression. I recognise that trauma can come in many forms, including, for example, bullying or other adverse childhood, as well as adult, experiences.

I am passionate about what counselling and IFS can offer. I am also committed to human rights and anti oppressive practice.

Testimonial:

"Drew has been a fantastic support to me through lots of different challenges. We have worked together to release some traumatic childhood experiences and also some traumatic experiences in my adult life. Having come to the sessions with a diagnosis of complex ptsd I found Drew's non pathologising approach refreshing and restorative. He was so respectful of every aspect of my experiences and expression and I have never felt safer speaking with someone in my life. I would wholeheartedly recommend therapy with Drew to anyone. I hope that it will be as healing as it has been for me. I have the skills now to handle new challenges and I no longer feel triggered in the spaces and amongst the people who were previously triggering. I feel like I have made such a worthwhile investment in myself and my wellbeing and it is having such a positive impact on the people around me and my relationships. I am very grateful for the long term support that Drew offered and I hope that others will have the courage to explore their own mental health with such a great professional as Drew" “
